Why Hire a Lawyer?

When you or someone close to you is faced with the life altering charge of a criminal offence, it is essential that you retain the experience of a criminal lawyer as soon as possible.

A highly specialized field, you need someone who thoroughly knows this area to best represent your interests. Through Mike’s expertise, he is able to deliberate advantages and disadvantages of proceeding to trial, point out what risks may be associated with your case, explain the costs associated with legal defense, and walk you through the scenarios of what would happen if you or someone you know is found guilty.

What to Expect

Step 1

You or someone close to you have been arrested and charged with a criminal offense. Most likely, you were released with a “Promise to Appear’, which includes a date you are scheduled to appear in court.

After you have been released, it is crucial to call Mike immediately. From there, Mike will personally arrange an appointment to meet with you and further discuss your circumstance. Alternatively, you or someone close to you have been held in custody for a later bail hearing. If you have not been released from custody, it is imperative that you or a family member get in contact with Mike immediately. Mike will visit you or meet with a family member and ensure your matters are dealt with as promptly as possible.

Step 2

When you first meet Mike for your free consultation, you will discuss:
The charge(s) you’re facing and possible outcomes.
How Mike can assist you with your case.
Mike’s fees and possible payment arrangements. As each case is unique, the retainer cost will vary from case to case.

Step 3

When you decide to hire Mike as your legal representation, a retainer is required prior to moving forward.
Once the retainer has been paid, Mike will meet with you to further understand your version of the facts. Taking your facts, along with the Crown disclosure (a copy of all investigation documents and recordings as taken by the police), Mike will be able to provide a full, legal opinion for your best possible outcome.

Mike will provide you with a free consultation in person or by telephone. You will be quoted fees on a flat fee basis rather than an hourly rate. This will allow you to calculate the exact cost of your defense before you retain Mike’s services.

You will be required to deposit a minimum retainer before Mike will go on the record for your defense. After the initial retainer, the balance of your fees can be divided into equal monthly payments due before the conclusion of your file. All fees are held in trust until your file is complete.

Mike accepts cash, cheque, money order, Visa, MasterCard and e-transfers.
